The uniqueness of the Expedition, the special individuals participating in it, and the comprehensive multi-media projects that are focused on the Expedition lend to a successful and extremely attention grasping project!

Expedition Highlights

  1. The Expedition will execute one of the most significant environmental cleanups on Mount Everest. This effort is a validation of true environmentalism and hopes to exemplify that humans should consider their impacts, anywhere they go into the next millennium. It truly will be a world event in the area of environmental efforts into the next century.
  2. The Expedition will be climbing for the summit of Mount Everest. This monumental task and shear effort will exhume the combined effort of individual sacrifice, commitment, planning and teamwork. The best climbers in the world admit there is no easy way up to the top of Mount Everest. Our effort to climb to the summit of Everest is a testament to human achievement in combination with the cleanup.
  3. Apa Sherpa, our lead Sherpa, holds a record for a phenomenal 10 summits to the top of Mount Everest. This is one of the greatest accomplishments in the history of mountaineering. Upon summiting with our Team, his 11th summit, he will set an historic new record in the history of Everest climbing.
  4. Our Climbing Team Member, Sherm Bull, will be one of the oldest climbers to attempt to climb Everest. At the age of 63, this stands as a testament for generational inspiration. Upon his success, he will hold the world record for the oldest climber to summit on Mount Everest.

Team Plan

The following concepts are key to our expedition’s success:

Leadership

Our Expedition Leader, Bob Hoffman has no less than 15 major expeditions under his belt as well as 3 previous successful Everest Expeditions and cleanups.

Commitment

The Inventa Everest Environmental Expedition 2000 has a team of committed climbers that have Himalayan climbing experience and previous Everest climbs. The selection of these individuals was based on current and previous climbing experience, team cohesiveness, ability and personality.

Planning

Logistical planning under Bob Hoffman started in 1998. This has been the basis for the Expedition's fundamental strength, the Climbing Team.

The Climbing Team met in the fall of 1999 to solidify the Expedition's logistics. The climbing strategy, overall Team logistics and risk management were covered. The oxygen plan and schedule for the climbers were discussed and formulated. Training as well as Team equipment was reviewed. Utilizing a comprehensive analysis of the most successful summit days on the mountain and past experiences, the Climbing Team has a very clear strategy to make the Expedition a success.

The climbing logistics and elements of teamwork of the Expedition have been well planned and are under current execution. Bob Hoffman traveled to Nepal in spring and fall of 1999 and secured the permit to climb Mount Everest. He also has organized the Expedition's Nepali cleanup team and support staff during these trips. All these elements are in place.

Risk management is a very important aspect of our Expedition. The dynamics of weather, hazards, and other teams that will be attempting Everest at the same time have been addressed. Our Team leadership has been in contact with the leaders of the other teams to ensure a stable and open atmosphere of communication that will enhance safety for all the teams.

The comprehensive environmental plan is in place. This is to ensure that all recovered refuse is either burned, recycled or repatriated to proper facilities to truly make our Expedition a real "environmental" effort. In the past, other teams have just dumped their recovered debris into

landfills in the lowlands of Nepal, not taking into account this only transfers the problem to another region. Our Team will insure that these items are properly disposed of-whether in Far East waste recovery sites or recycling centers here in the United States.

Other "environmental teams" also had the practice of just bringing down token amounts of recovered oxygen bottles and trash, even purchasing debris from other teams in Base Camp rather than recover the real "problem" higher on the mountain. Our Expedition intends to not only ensure that all of the incidental debris it creates during the Expedition is properly handled, but we are also addressing the debris high on the mountain.

The Team's experience in leadership, commitment, planning, communication, teamwork and execution ensure that the operational aspects of the Expedition will go well.

Media Plan

The Media Team will document the Expedition on two planes. The first focus is on the Cleanup Effort and Climb to the Summit. The second focus is on the Sherpa Culture and all the other outlined Highlights in which you would be represented.

The Video Documentary and Photography

1. The Inventa Everest Environmental Expedition 2000 has in place a multi-media team that will cover the Highlights of the Expedition. This includes a documentary, film and photography crew, an executive producer in charge of major media distribution, a composer and CD magazine designer and formatter, and a screen and film consultant for the treatment and screenwriting tasks.

2. The Media Team will capture the elements of the Cleanup and Climbing Team on the mountain. This extensive journey will be the foundation for the documentary, Beyond the Summit.

3. The Media Team will also focus on the Sherpa culture. This will contribute to the cultural aspect of the film to make it even more unique. This part of the project requires special access to the Sherpa people and their homes, villages, and environment. Bob Hoffman's close and positive ties to the Sherpa community, as well as Apa Sherpa's prominence in the Sherpa community secures an opportunity to film aspects never filmed before.

Bob Hoffman also laid the foundation for Media Team access during his fall 1999 visit to Nepal. He is a special invitee to one of the Tenzing family's most ceremonial wedding events in Bhutan and West Bengal in March of 2000, which our Media Team will be allowed to document.

4. The Media Team will develop video footage for you. This includes the filming of promotional video clips and segments during the Expedition for your marketing programs.

5. The Media Team as well as the Climbing and Cleanup Teams will provide still photographic material for you. This will be in 35mm print, digital, and 35mm slide formats. This will create an archive of images that will be available for you to use in marketing programs.

2. We have a dedicated print promotion campaign in place. This includes a full-page print color ad featuring the Expedition in the Silicon Valley's prestigious San Jose Magazine.

  4. List you on our website as a Sherpa Benefactor.

The Cleanup Team, a group of dedicated Sherpa climbers, will follow the steps of the Climbing Team and bring down as much debris as possible to execute this historic and monumental environmental endeavor.

Our climbs would not be possible without the support and direct effort of the local indigenous people of the Himalaya region, the Sherpa people. It is through their hard work, commitment and willingness to share our risks and adventure, which makes our climbs truly possible and successful. Sherpas have been employed on treks and mountaineering since 1921 when the first expedition on Mount Everest took place. Tenzing Norgay, perhaps the most famous Sherpa, was one of the first human beings to summit Mount Everest. Triumphantly erecting a flag over his head, Tenzing and his close partner, Sir Edmund Hillary brought the world together in their unique and amazing accomplishment.

The 50th anniversary of this special accomplishment will fall on May 29, 2003. We hope in our current effort that we will be able to clean Everest and let Tenzing smile down from the heavens for giving back to a mountain that has given so much to the world.
